There are a core group of people that we keep in touch with from our Army days at Ft. Riley. Once you go through something as challenging as Ryan did, a bond is created with those who have supported and loved you that can never be undone. One couple that fits in the category for us are Rob and Dena Yllescas.
The link above will bring you to a new website that Dena is updating as much as possible... A few days ago, Rob was injured in Afghanistan and is currently fighting for his life at a hospital in Germany. At this point his injuries are vast, including the loss of one leg just above the knee, and the other just below the knee. Our hearts are aching for this family and what we know they are going through right now.
All I can ask of you is that you pray. Specifically, pray for his mental recovery... we know what amazing things can be done at Walter Reed in regards to prosthetics but before that is the focus, we need ROB back. Pray for his wonderful wife Dena, their two little girls, Rob's parents, and the rest of the family and friends that are suffering with this news.
Aside from the prayer, (I know this may seem simple) but pass on this website, visit it, and COMMENT on her entries! I CANNOT explain how much it meant to me to hear from perfect strangers that they were praying for my husband. You might feel odd signing the blog of someone you do not know, but I PROMISE you that she will appreciate it. The Yllescas family needs to feel the whole world loving on them and praying for them. PLEASE. If you have your own blog, consider posting a link to his website (as well as my encouragement for comments!)
Let's make them feel all of our support today, tomorrow and in months from now. This is a long journey they are on... it will be more than a year that Rob is doing rehab for his injuries, and it will be the rest of his life that he struggles with his 'new normal'. Check in on them, and check in often. I know it seems like a small thing, but I can tell you personally that it makes a difference. If you don't quite know what to say, go with something simple- "Our family in Mesa, Arizona is keeping you in our thoughts".
Take care,
Nancy

Nancy...you continue to amaze me. You are such a wonderful woman, wife, mom and friend. I posted on their blog and will continue to follow it. There are so many things you do everyday that help the people around you. I also love the video of you and Ryan!
Nancy and Ryan -- thank you so much for being here for Rob and Dena. Words can never express how much you are helping them and helping all their loved ones know that they are getting the best information and treatment. You both inspire all of us once again. And now you are helping them find their way. God Bless You and Your family. And many thanks from our's, Craig and Karen Bender

Nancy and Ryan - Thanks for letting us all know about Rob. I know that you two will be there for them in ways that noone else can be right now. Thank you for that. Praying hard here in Georgia. Will post well wishes and encouragement on their web site.
Congratulations to you and Ryan, by the way, on your beautiful little girl. I used to watch your caring bridge site and am happy to see how happy you all are now. I'm so grateful to you Ryan, and so proud of you both.

Nancy,
I am Rob's first cousin and I don't know if any of his family has had the opportunity to thank you for helping Dena set up the blog. The updates mean so much for us and it has been a great way to get updates instead of playing grapevine on the telephone. I also went back and looked at the blog you had wrote and of course I cried more.....it is somewhat reassuring to know some of the things you went through are similar to what Dena is going through so you can comfort her for those of us who are not there. Ryan is a hero to look up to and your daughter is such a blessing (and absolutely adorable). I am glad to know Rob will have a good friend to confide in. Again, thank you so much for your support and help, it will always be remembered and appreciated.
Best regards,
Melinn Klein
Ryan and Nancy,
I know I am not very close to either of you; however, I served with Ryan in 1-13 AR. Although I have never kept in touch with Ryan, I have spoken often of him to friends and family.
I hate that it sometimes takes horrible events like these to bring people closer together, but I wanted to say hi and let you both know that I am glad you both have touched my life. Thank you so much for what you continue to do for Rob and Dena. Rob was an extremely good friend while I was at Ft. Riley, and my heart goes out to Dena and the girls as they go through this tragedy.
I just wanted to thank the two of you for what you do and know that my prayers are with Rob and his family.
By the way, I enjoyed the recent video you posted, and was happy to see how your family is doing.
