You're on your way to the beach... Hmm. What to pack... Sunscreen? Check. Towels? Check. Sand toys? Got em. I've got water, food, bathing suits, an umbrella, blanket... what am I forgetting?
Oh. Rain Boots.
How silly of me!

A few weeks ago we were getting ready to go to the beach and Jillian strutted out in this get up. Boy oh boy! We had just gotten these boots (which are Crocs brand and although they cost way too much $, I'd say they were worth it because they are a solid pink so they match a lot more stuff, AND they are about 2lbs lighter than any other rain boot I've seen, so I think they are easy for her to wear, and quite comfy.) Anyway- forgive me, I'm totally rationalizing a splurge purchase!
Anyway- she looked SO darn cute that I caved and told her she could wear them to the beach.
I had NO IDEA at the time what a GREAT idea it was! Seriously. Amazing.
Zero sand under her feet while we hiked to the water. Zero whining that the sand was hot, and zero stopping for her to "empty her flip flops" only to stand back up and look completely frustrated with the whole situation.
So, you might have thought I was teasing, but I'm not. I'll do my best to never go to the beach without rain boots again!
Oh, and french braids are a must as well:

(That cute little tush is pretty priceless too)
Unrelated to this post, I've been told I'm a bit of a blog slacker lately. I know. I take pictures like the above series, and I mean to put the story on here, but alas, there's only so many hours in the day. I hope you'll give me some slack though, and rest assured once Liv turns one (Aug. 20th? How could that BE?) I'll stop the weekly updates on her blog (link), and have a little more time for the family blog.
:) Nancy

Nancy, this is so great. We discovered the same thing when CAMPING. And when we camped at the beach, DOUBLE AWESOME!
When camping in the summer, you wear feety PJs to stay warm at night, BUT if you have to go potty or just run around in the morning, it is really hard to put sneakers on over the feet, and sandals get your feet wet due to the dew. So rain boots it is!
Now rain boots and feetie pjs are pretty darn cute, but I'm not sure if it beats Jillian with her rainboots and the cute little semi-wedge tush! :)
nancy, thanks for sharing. i'll get boots for my daughter as well, great idea. now, please give me another tip... how do you get jillian to stay still until you do such perfectly done french braids?!?! my daughter will not stay put so is impossible to do them... please, give me some tricks since i want to see her with french braids and look as cute as jillian. thanks!
Hi Jessica-
To start, her hair has to be a little bit wet. I just make a wash cloth dripping wet, and rub it all over her head so her hair is moist, but not dripping. Second, do your part, and use a clip to hold the hair you're not working with out of the way. Then braid one side (I just use LOTS AND LOTS of positive reinforcement with Jillian while I'm doing it- "wow, you're the best at sitting still!" "I've never met a little girl more amazing at sitting still in the WHOLE world!" I also give her something to look at, (like a book) and have her sit on her dresser so she's at the right height for me to work.
Hope that helps!
Final suggestion- learn how to braid fast! ;)
love the tushy and braids picture, lol. so cute! And those boots are pretty dang cute! Man, I need a girl...
thanks nancy! i'll try that, a book, and a lot of positive reinforcement and patience for me. : ) thank you. your girls are adorable and they are blessed to have such an amazing mom. God bless!
